SEISMIC EVALUATION AND STRENGTHENING DESIGN FOR THE ST JAMES THEATRE.

Client: Norfolk Trustee Company

The St James Theatre is a Category 1 Heritage listed building located in central Auckland.

COMPUSOFT have undertaken a detailed seismic assessment of the St James Theatre and designed seismic retrofit strengthening measures for the structure without compromising the heritage aspects of the ornate building interior. Staged construction and restricted access requirements added additional complexities to the design.

Work included linear dynamic and time-history analyses of the building, assessment of existing structural capacities and development of a valid strengthening scheme. The strengthening scheme required upgrading of the diaphragms, strengthening of existing walls, foundation underpinning and isolation of non-structural elements.
