Client: Vortec Energy Ltd

Diffuser–Augmented Wind Turbines are an innovative form of turbine being developed by Vortec Energy Ltd. Compusoft were engaged to provide technical support to the Vortec team in the development of prototype diffuser–augmented turbines.

Work included, research and development, evaluation of aerodynamic loading, development of a 3-D finite element model (containing approx. 14000 degrees of freedom) of the wind turbine system, steel design, detailing and fatigue analysis. Various configurations and sizes of turbine were considered with internal turbine diameters varying from 2m for the initial prototype through to 64m.
